After nearly five months of availability in the U.S., the Starlink Mini has finally launched in Canada, offering a significant discount compared to other markets. Priced at CAD 399, the Starlink Mini is CAD 100 cheaper than the full-size standard model. This launch promotion will last until January 6th, with the Mini paired with the affordable Roam 50GB plan at CAD 70 per month, offering the ultimate portable internet solution.
The Mini is about the size of a laptop and weighs only a few pounds. It delivers download speeds of around 200 Mbps, upload speeds of 20 Mbps, and a latency of under 40 milliseconds. With a power consumption of approximately 30 watts, the best part is its integrated Wi-Fi router and power supply. All you need to get online anywhere in the world is the Mini and a plug-in power source.
Since its U.S. debut in July 2024, the product has become a favorite among travelers. Thanks to its low-power design, the Mini uses minimal energy, can connect to a vehicle’s 12V outlet, and even works with a USB-C port. Paired with a portable power bank, it can be mounted on a Tesla’s glass roof, enabling high-speed mobile internet while on the move.
The Starlink Mini exemplifies the progress made by Elon Musk’s SpaceX and Starlink since they first launched internet services four years ago. The first-generation product weighed over 25 pounds and was large enough to double as a coffee table. The new Mini, however, is small enough to fit in a backpack while providing the same performance.
As in the U.S. market, the Starlink Mini is only compatible with Starlink's mobile service plans. On the Starlink website’s Roam page, users can choose between the Roam 50GB and Roam Unlimited plans. The Roam 50GB plan, priced at CAD 70 per month, is designed for casual travelers with moderate data needs. Meanwhile, the CAD 189/month unlimited plan is perfect for full-time travelers and heavy users, offering unlimited data without restrictions.
Both Roam plans come with a range of useful features, such as up to two months of international travel access, coastal water usage permissions, flexible dynamic usage modes, and the ability to pause billing seasonally. Since its U.S. launch in July, the Starlink Mini has quickly expanded to several global markets, and Canada, as one of Starlink's key markets, has now joined the launch, which has surprised many.
After an initial surge in orders, Starlink reduced the price to USD 449 during Black Friday and Cyber Monday week. The price has since returned to normal, with some customers receiving new Residential + Roam Mini bundle offers. The latest promotions align with the Mini's launch in Canada, suggesting that production capacity for the Starlink Mini is now fully in place.
