History of the Development of 90° Connectors

The concept of the 90° connector dates back to the early 20th century, when electricity began to be widely used in homes and industries. As the variety and number of electrical devices increased, the need for connections between different devices led to the creation of adapters. In 1912, Harvey Hubbel rotated the pins of a plug by 90 degrees, resulting in the parallel flat pin configuration that is still widely used today. This can be considered the early form of the 90° connector in the field of electrical connections.

 

Why Did the 90° Connector Appear?

Meeting Specific Space Requirements: In some device designs or specific usage scenarios, conventional straight connectors are not suitable for space layout needs. For example, inside a computer case, where various hardware components and cables are densely packed, using a standard adapter to connect the 24-pin main power supply interface on the motherboard could cause interference with components like memory or hard drives, making it difficult to organize cables and manage cooling inside the case. A 90° connector changes the direction of the connection, allowing the power cable to connect at a more optimal angle, preventing conflicts with other components, and improving cable management and space efficiency, resulting in a cleaner, more organized layout.

Optimizing Device Connection and Operation: The positioning of ports on certain devices can make insertion and removal difficult. For example, when ports are located on the side or bottom of a device, using a standard adapter can be challenging due to cable restrictions that require more space for insertion and awkward angles that may damage the port. A 90° connector offers a more natural, convenient angle for insertion and removal, reducing the difficulty of use, minimizing the risk of port damage, and improving the overall ease of device connection and operation.

Improving Signal Transmission Stability: In applications where high-quality signal transmission is crucial, such as high-speed data or video signal transmission, standard adapters may cause signal degradation or interference due to factors like cable bending or stretching. A 90° connector, by optimizing its internal structure and wiring methods, and employing technologies such as multi-layer shielding and differential signal transmission, helps reduce signal reflection, scattering, and other issues during the connection process. This improves signal stability and quality, ensuring the accurate transmission of data.
